Imperial Sucks...

...Metric is the way forward!
At least with chilled out tunes like "gimme sympathy" they are; laid-back, soft melodies and clever lyrics whispered gently to my ears make this tune a must-have for those hungover mornings when all you need is a little boost from a song caressed into your brain. Beautiful :-

Metric may be awesome, but Metronomy is the science of metrics (?) and as such has to be cool... exceot science isn't cool. Full stop. I dunno, I can't work out if it's cool or not, and I just can't figure out if Metronomy's 'Heartbreaker' is cool either... So how about a cheeky bassed-up remix of it? well, I still find myself half-loving it, half-can't understand the wierd background bloops and bleeps, or the strangly presented lyrics. Still, coolness is relative, so make up your own mind :-

I love MSTRKRFT, the crafty little bugger is just so heavy with bass and epic with piano that his music excites me oh so much. It seems Heartbreaking is topic of the day, and remixing is always my favourite kind of mixing. Wolfgang Gartner is my latest remixer of choice. It's not just big bass pumping my heart (which isn't broken right now) that I love, it's the way the bass makes me wanna move, and The Wolf certainly gets my party feet moving :-

Mr Hudson has been romping his way up the charts and into the hearts of the UK with his 'Supernova' hit with the self-loving Kanye, and finding remixes of this tune is like trying to find happy kids in a candy shop. Well, I had a browse through 'em all, and found the Phat-ist of them all. It takes about a minute for this song to get going, so hold on tight for the big club beats and suave synth to take hold :-

It's remix after remix today, so I have apologise for being unable to love originals like I ought to. Nneka's original 'Heartbeat' is a chilled out tune filled with pain and turmoil. Now it's been filled with a big beat and plenty of hand-raising opportunities. And that's why we love remixes :-

The BBC knows nuffin'

According to the BBC website, Teddy Bears have become much less popular than they were with children a generation or two ago. How wrong they are, though, as The Teddybears are now rocking my stereo at full volume!
Check out this awesome re-hash by the Teddybears, who have managed to pump up this golden-oldie with some seriously good scratching. Turn the bass wayyy up for this beaut :-

LMFAO - you won't be laughing so much as dancing when you hear this LMFAO remix of 'Paranoid' . Harsh pumping beats, aggressive synth tunes and climactic fading electric piano's turn this rappers delight into dancefloor-fodder. Brilliant! :-

Woah! Pace-change! Heard of Ben Folds? No? How about Reginna Spektor? No??? Well apparently these two unknowns have come together and have produced a little gem of a chilled out tune. With soft marching band drums, cute melodies and some progressive lyrics this tune is the sort of song you just know your going to end up putting on your chill-out playlist... It's You Don't Know Me :-

MORE GOOD TUNES? yes! Check out Crookers latest efforts at restructuring hip-hop: These guys are so good at pumping a tune full of bass it really isn't a surprise I'm loving this tune. They've had their way with Busy P this time; his hit 'To Protect and Entertain' has been remixed and is now blowing me away :-

KanYAY!

Hooray for Kanye!
The man has restored my faith music by producing the first track in 2 weeks that has actually pleased my eardrums!
West takes an old(ish) favourite(ish) and slams his witty rapping voice all over it like a sponge cake covered in chocolate - tuck in! Yes, okay, it's another song by Kanye about Kanye and how we all apparently want to hate him but can't... but I don't care...
It's actually not all that great a song, hardly worth getting too excited about, but in this climate of terrible music recently it's a ruddy oasis! :-

What a shame that's it! oh well, here's one fromn the past that probably past you by faster than a Freddie Flintoff delivery - It's Steppenwolf with Magic Carpet Ride. Found it when scrolling down my library looking for the reasons why I love music :-

watch out for the uber-long organ solo bit, which gets a tad tedious - stick with it!

NO MUSIC!

WHAT has happened to music in the last 6 days? I haven't ever been so depressed, searching around trying to find something to post about...

Cascada? rubbish... terrible lyrics that merely describe what needs to happen - STOP THE BEAT; it's so piss poor.
Any Remixes? no... in fairness they haven't much to work with, but Ultrabeat, Wideboys and many more have all failed to make an impact

So what about bulletproof? yes, that's okay - indeed the Foamo Remix is amazing. I blogged about that 2 weeks ago, though!

How about When Love Takes Over - old news again i'm afraid... and isn't that piano piece just a rip of Coldplay's 'Clocks'?

Even Dizzee has let me down... I just can't seem to like 'Holiday' at all! Bring back Calvin and David, Mr Rascal!

Is there ANYTHING or ANYONE worth blogging about right now?

Well, maybe - Green Day have had this beauty tucked away for a while, but now it's being released and about time too. Another great from The BJ Band with clever lyrics and meaning. Taking notes, Cascada? Here it is :-

Madina Lake - a band lovable for their hate of everything have released 'Let's get outta here' and I'm afraid it's just not what I was hoping/waiting/expecting from the trio - Mainstream never made any sense to them, apparently, but in my opinion they may have just sold their souls to those corporate devils they hated so much... one wanders what their price was. Still, I suppose it's quite nice in a bland, poppy way :-

All that's left is to talk about Just Jack. With him releasing Embers a while back and doing ok with it (whilst not chart topping) he's managed to release his latest effort without disturbing the waters at all. The Day I Died is the day I listened to this song... OK, tad harsh, but it is a pretty bad effort from a man who can produce great music. Just to convince you, here he is covering T.I. in the live lounge a while back :-

A depressing week for music, lets hope I find the inspiration from somewhere soon!

Remember the name...

...Alex Metric - The man makes some great remixes and his latest effort takes Bloc Party's 'one more chance' and turns it totally dancefloor. With suave electric beats, aggressive piano thrashing and a great sense of climax, this remix really makes me want to turn the lights down, the volume up and wiggle my little white ass on the dancefloor --->

Alex Metric was at the closing party for 'Space' in Ibiza last year, and rumours are all around the Ibiza Bloggers that he will make his return to the island late on this summer... better start phoning easyjet now!

Lets change genre and talk about N.A.S.A... Number 1 in the charts, the final frontier...
Now some of us will know that N.A.S.A have been around for some time, but it seems the blogging world has just realised they like the beats they've created. So it's your turn to see if you like what you hear. The song is called 'hip-hop'; some of the more mainstream songs include 'gifted' and 'wachadoin' -->

More from people you've never heard of now - it's Kavinsky! Only you electronic lovers will know him from his EP '1986' and because of his awesome tunes including 'Testarossa Autodrive'. I recently found out why his EP was called 1986 - it was the title of a song he never released beforehand. Why he didn't realease it I'll never know because it rocked my socks off - a pumping electro tune to rival his greatest works. Check it out here, and below '1986' is SebastiAn's remix of Testarossa Autodrive (which is really only for you electronic lovers out there... and loving La Roux doesn't count...)

Others who have been to Ibiza might have heard of Kavinsky before, and If your going to Ibiza later this summer I suggest you do some research on the fella!

Peace Out =]

Wale load of rubbish!

Wale? Supposedly pronouced "wah-lay", but more likely should read "wail" as that's what his offering made me do. Tears to my dry eyes. Never mind Gaga pathetically repeating the cheeez from 'hey jude' throughout the song; in the video Wale goes through a paper banner with the words "I have a dream" on them - sorry, sir, are you referring yourself to the saviour of all black people Mr Luther-King, a true legend of modern history? Really? Reeeally? Also, "my name is Wale" is not a lyric you dolt.
BUT it is catchy and annoying, so lets watch this one va-va-voom up the charts as moronic teenagers clap to it like zombies. Groan.

Here's the video - watch it if you dare:

Moving swiftly on, here's something new for your liking - a remix on a James "soul king" Brown number. It's a great effort by a guy called Parker who is part of the Goodgroove Records label. It certainly is an inventive effort. It is a little hard to get hold of though, and Youtube hasn't yet got a video for it. Click here and it will be the first song you'll see. Check it out.

Live Lounge time now. I love the live lounge because it's everything music should be; live, real and about the sharing of ideas. Which is the best of the Live Lounge efforts, though? It might just be the "best of you" as done by Stereophonics. If you haven't heard it yet, get ready for something great:

La Roux really has hit the ground running with In For the Kill and Bulletproof - Well it turns out she's gonna keep her legs pumping for a while yet. Tigerlilly is her latest venture, and despite the fact that it's a bit samey as her other ventures, it's all round pretty good. Wait about 7 days and I'll have a bajillion remixes all lined up, no doubt =P

Some interesting La Roux Facts for you:
1. In for the Kill wasn't La Roux's first effort, it was 'Quicksand' - click here to watch the video
2. La Roux may well sing the tunes, but it is producer Ben Langmaid that has come up with the great beats
3. La Roux's self-titled album is out, and it really is very very good.
4. I'm Not Your Toy is La Roux's best song according to popular opinion. I think it's This remix by Last Japan, called the Scream Re-Edit. Word of warning - this will sound terrible on a Laptop as the whole song is basically just BASS!

One Day, Two Blogs

I had a dream - and in it I remember a few bands I wanted to blog about so here goes:

This band is called KIDidiot and they are from Portsmouth. I heard about them years ago and really expected them to quickly get a big-label producer and hit the charts. Somehow that hasn't happened for them. They decided to split after failing to hit the big time for so long. It really is a huge loss for the British Indie scene. Here is one of my favourite tunes from their EP:

Let's move on from bands that no-longer exist to talk about InnerPartySystem, a band my friend peter introduced me to. Check this tune out, and then go do some research about their other offerings because they're awesome:

Speaking of my friend Peter, a band called Alkaline Trio had a great song by that title. And here it is:

Work Work Work

So I decided it was a good idea to get a job temping in a hotel - two 11.5 hour shifts in two days later and I wonder what I was thinking. Still, some money would be nice to pay some bills!

Anywho, I've just finished the 2nd of my grueling shifts so it's time to hit up some moooozak before I hit the hay. Continuing from the last blog, lets talk acoustic! We all know what happened to Lady Gaga on Jonathan Woss a while back, and I was ready to throw her in the scrapheap alongside all the other pop dross until Jo Whiley may have saved her career (at least on our island). Check out this video of her in the Live Lounge singing a truley different version of Poker Face - she performed this at Glasto as well.

Whilst I'm redeeming a Lady, let me introduce you to a Master: Master Shortie. This lad has some seriously good lyrics (despite what La Roux said about RnB Lyrics t'other day on Radio 1!) and some awesome beats. There's a million versions of this song which can be found with ease, but this has to be my favourite:

So I'll leave you with a Remix in what has turned out to be a blog of triple-awesomeness..ish..

Once again I have fallen to the lows of blogging some MJ, but of the various attempts this has to be up there with the best:

Quick mention of Dizzee's new tune - Holiday - which is a tune, by the way, but I'm not bloggin it coz it's already being blogged to death!
Peace Out =]

In the Beginning...

It's always hard to know where to start...

What I love best about music are remixes and covers. I love to hear a song I know sung differently, in a different style or gender, maybe with a completely new beat or acoustic. I'm sure you'll all agree; two versions is better than one. That way we can have favourites.

I'm pretty sure there are a million remixes and covers on my MP3, so it's hard to know which one is best to share with the world. SO, I'll share two.

First is Paramore's acoustic cover of 'My Hero' by the Foo Fighters. It was a tune when Grohl scremed it down a mic, it's an absolute tune coming out of Williams. Paramore are possibly my new favourite rock-group right now. I think it helps that I fancy her, mind. Although not in the picture in the video....She looks fat there....Trust me, she's hot normally.

Second up is a remix I just can't stop playing. And now the King has gone to join the other King in the alien mothership it seems wonderfully topical. How clever am I?! It's Herve's 'Cheap Thrills', and I've gone for the Club mix - check out the Vocal Mix if you fancy some average lyrics on top... Enjoy

If you want some other awesome remixes to Youtube, check out:

'Il Cattuvo plus Thunderstuck (medley re-edit)' by Crookers.
'Bulletproof (Foamo Remix)' by La Roux.
'I'm Not Alone (Deadmau5 remix)' by Calvin Harris.
